Holden Rides Again

Holden has learned to ride his bike without training wheels. He is so accident prone, though, that it looks like he has been in a fight. He doesn't give up though. He is learning to start and turn, and he will fall and get up and say, "I'm OK", before we even ask. I don't think he has learned to get his feet out when he starts to fall. Oh well, he will learn.

Sunday

Well today was an emotional day for me. I watched as my baby boy showed some extreme maturity, even though he is just 6 years old. Brandt was competing in his 2nd triathlon through the YMCA. The first one was very fun, and he was excited to go when we arrived in the valley. Waiting to get in the water, he was a bit nervous. He did wonderful on the swim. He had four lengths to do, and he finished near the top of the group. He had a really quick transition, and was off on his bike. He was gaining on the kids in front of home. Next thing I know, I am watching him stand next to his bike at the corner just out of the parking lot. Being a mom, I was concerned that he had fallen and gotten hurt. I raced over to see what was up. When I got there, I learned that he had blown out his front bike tire. He was done. We walked back over to the Y pushing the bike and let Mike know that he was done. Well, one of the organizers heard us and suggested we could borrow a bike. Brandt wanted to finish, so he ran over and borrowed a kids bike. Off he went, last on on the bike trail. He races out and back and does a great job. He brings his bike to the transition zone, and is going too fast on the gravel. He wipes out, flying over the handle bars. When he gets up he has scratches on his chest, and he is limping, but he had a real determination and wanted to finish the race. Off he went, limping, to start the running portion of the race. He grew stronger as he ran, and was sprinting across the finish line. He was battered, bruised, and dirty, but happy to have finished the race. He talks about how God wanted him to finish the race. I am more proud of his attitude and determination in this race than I was when he won his first triathlon. I know he learned more from this experience. I was in tears as I watched him dirty and sore run the last lap. I am a proud mommy. Here are pictures of his swim, and then him with his finishers medal and broken bike.

3D Movie

The family took in the new 3D movie, Fly me to the moon. It was so fun, though Wyatt watched most of it without glasses. It was a bit blurry. The other boys loved it. It was a really cute movie. Anyway here is a shot of everyone with their glasses on.

Combine Rides

We took the boys on combine rides down by Tekoa. They had a great time. Boys in big tractors, what could be more fun.

Peach Picking

We went up to Greenbluff to pick peaches last week. The boys were very zealous pickers, and we came home with quite a few peaches. They are so good fresh from the trees. Nicci went and helped us out, but she forgot to take her promised peaches home with her to Pullman.

More Air Show pictures

The Air Show

We had a fantastic time today at the Fairchild Air Show. The kids loved looking at all the planes, and watching the amazing flying. We met Grandma and Grandpa, as well as Aunt Pat and Uncle Bob there. Holden spent most of his time making paper airplanes out of sticky notes. Wyatt was sure that there was lightning, though I explained to him the airplanes were making the loud noised. Ainsley was pretty happy until the end when I think she was just done wearing the ear muffs and wanted to leave. Brandt started playing airshow with his toy planes on the way home. I think the show had an impact on all of them. Here are some of the pictures from the show.

Volleyball

Well, I finally have gotten around to playing volleyball again. I played in a tournament this weekend and had a great time. We didn't end up winning our bracket, but we had a lot of fun trying. I plan to continue playing for years to come. The kids came and cheered me on. Mike did a great job of corralling them throughout the day. Poor Holden ended up with 2 bee stings. Poor thing claims that the attacks were unprovoked. We have been watching the Bee Movie lately. The kids have a different view of bees now. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to take pictures while I was there, but everyone think back to when I played in high school, and well, that was nothing like what I looked like this weekend. I had fun though.

Hello all,
So, what do you think of my new paint job? Thanks Jen for the suggestion.
